South Haven, MI

The tall ship had a pirate cruise and the volunteer was dressed for that. You can see the floating bar behind us. The bar needs work but if they move it the town won't let them put it back. Top is the bride riding on the bow with the groom in a bathing suit. Only in America!

South Haven, Californian

As you can see, there is another boat like ours. It has gas engines and can go just about double our speed. They have spent time redoing the interior and putting new canvas on. It really looks good. There are so few of these boats, that anyone who owns one is thrilled to see another and see what changes have been made. We met Debi and Doug and they took us on a little cruise to see a beautiful sunset. We also met some ex-Pfizer people from Kalamazo on board.

My daughter, Barb, said we should not have gottne on their boat, they could have been ax murderers. We thought other Californian owners could not be bad!

Kalamazoo Pfizer family visiting on the boat

Gary Spies his wife Mari and their two children Ella and Henry visited us in South Haven. Gary was kind enough to deliver some packages that we had sent to him. One of the problems along the way is getting things sent. It can be done but we really have trouble figuring out where we will be when.
We enjoyed having The Spies on the boat. Henry was very interested in boat and Ella was very familiar with South Haven.

More of South Haven

You can see the Maritime Museum's version of bow thruster above. In front of our boat was a bar called Capt. Lou's and behind us across the water was another bar. Both had bands, Fri, Sat, and Sun nights. The bands played until 1:30 am and then the cigarette boats started up. We didn't get much sleep here. Sun night they had to move us to another slip because an 80 foot boat came in and took our slip.

South Haven, MI

As we move south on Lake Michigan, there is more competition for dockage especially since Labor Day is this weekend. We will be here in South Haven until Sunday or Monday since we could not find any thing for the weekend.
We passed the tall ship as we were coming into the breakwater--little did we know our slip is right next to it!

Grand Haven Marina

We enjoyed the town of Grand Haven--Ed was thrilled, we could walk to Home Depot! He got his fix. We met some lovely people doing the loop--a couple from New Zealand, one from Shelter Island, NY, one from Wallingford, CT, two boats from Maryland.

Claim to fame for Grand Haven are the dancing lights--they put on a show every night.

White Lake, Whitehall, MI

Very quite area for a marina. Two towns are very close. Montague on one side and Whitehall on the other. Montague has the largest weather vane in the world, its claim to fame.

Star scoccer player

Meet our 10 year old grandson, Brennan Chuprinko. He played goalie for the first time in a game and his team won the tournament for his age group! One of the games he played goalie for half the time and then played on the field and made a goal. Way to go Brennan!

We now have Skype if anyone is interested.

Pentwater, MI

We are still in Pentwater. The weather has kept us here, winds and the storms. They had a small wooden boat parade. It was so funny. One of the guys was trying to get into one of the boats as it was getting ready for the parade. He almost fell into the water. You can see his leg and shoe in the top photo.

A picture of our neighbors at the anchorage.

Ludington, MI

From Frankfort to Manistee we stopped for cheap fuel at 4.09 a gallon. Who ever thought we would be calling $4.09 a gallon cheap?

All the boats coming at us were on 1/2 day fishing charters for salmon. They are really running (salmon) and there seems to be no limit.

The large ship was in the harbor. A ferry runs from Manatowa, WI to Ludington, MI twice a day. Wisconin and Michigan are about 60 miles apart at this point.

Manistee, MI

Another small town along the way. The downtown area was lovely with restored old buildings.

The Riverwalk went along the river from Lake Michigan to the end of town.

Frankfort, MI

Some of the sand cliffs along the way to Frankfort. The most photographed light house on Lake Michigan and a Great Lakes ship. We did 38 nautical miles today ending with very calm waters. We only saw about ten boats the whole five hours on the lake. The water temperature in Lake Michigan near Frankfort is 65 degrees.
Seven weeks and Ed and I are still talking!

Leland Harbor, Michigan

Just another weather day!

Leland Harbor, Michigan

45 01.478N
85 45.753W

Today is Linda's birthday and we'll celebrate with dinner at a very nice restaurant on the water in Leland. Funny thing is they probably charge extra for the water view and it's import is lost on us!! She's sporting her new skrimshaw earings from Mackinac Island in this photo.
When we first came into the Harbor we saw this 110 ft. yacht with an amphibious car on it's deck. The captain said they don't launch the car much, not much freeboard - more for decoration!
Leland is an old fishing town that is still active and also set up as a tourist attraction. The old shanties of Fishtown have been converted to shops. A nice town to walk around. It was interesting to watch a local artist and compare what he saw and painted vs. what the camera shows.

Anchored at Northport, Grand Traverse Bay

Not much of a town. Just a place to wait out the winds and do a little weight lifting! We left early the next morning and saw an unusual sight (for us) - a sunrise.

Anchored in Oyster Bay, Lake Charlevoix

45 19.274N

Some of the scenes around Lake Charlavoix and Round Lake. We were two nights at anchor in Oyster Bay, a short distance from Round Lake and the town of Charlavoix. Hot Dogs anyone? The house you see in the picture was for sale in case you want to buy it! The flowers were beautiful.
