You have to double click on this picture so that you get the full effect!
Our friends on Silver Boots said that we had to see the Spring--so we went by this decorated STOP sign and had to take a picture on our way!

Marina Great Harbour Cay

Jack Nichalus's boat Sea Bear in the harbour. They use it as a condo--the crew brings is over from West Palm for the winter
Third hole

The reds were conch shells painted red

I thought I forgot how--well really I did but I did make a par on one hole--of course it was a par 3!

It was once a beautiful club house now in disrepair. The story is that in the 80's a drug lord ran the club. He wasexpecting that the gov't would allow gambling on the island and that didn't happen. The drug lord ran the place physically into the ground and then the next owner went into bankruptcy as did the next owner. Now twenty families use nine holes and maintain it as best they can. They have a grounds keeper but it really needs work. By comparison Birch Plains is very well maintained!

Sunday we decide to play golf at the Jack Nichalus golf course. There are only nine holes left out of eighteen.

Anchorage Great Harbour, The Berry Islands, Bahamas

We ordered coconut bread--Ed took the dinghy to pick up the loaves the next day.
Making conch cheviche on the back of a pickup truck in parking lot of the airport. The airport actually had scheduled flights several times a week--mostly to Nassau.
Lunch break at the Beach Club

Walked down to see the cave--ocean side

What beautiful beaches--this one is on the ocean side.

We had to get creative. We rented a car with Silver Boots, Jim and Pam. The supply ship came yesterday and we wanted to get to the markets to get some fresh produce! We also wanted to explore the islands.

Entrance to Harbour--looks classy!

Ed making the bread run
Our grandson, Brennan, collected some coconuts while he was with us. Our friends on Foreign Exchange had a recipe for coconut cake. It was great!

Everybody uses a hammer and chisle to break the coconut. Ed did not include the drill shot.

We are at anchor tonight with our quarantine flag flying. Tomorrow we will go to the marina and check into the Bahamas. We have taken our first swim in Bahamian waters--77 degrees!

Plane landing at the airport. We have been told the radar guy does double duty he is also the customs and immigration agent.

Gun Cay Cut

Good thing we had confidence in Silver Boots. We thought he was going up on the banks. The problem, mon, is that there are no markers for channels. Lucky he has done this before.

Lighthouse marking Gun Cay Cut

Jim and Pam have made the crossing a few times and it was nice to follow along.

Dive! Dive! Here we are plowing through the waves during our Gulf Stream crossing.

We were not prepared for the dark blue color of the water in the gulf stream. Not to date myself but it reminded me of dark blue fountain pen ink.

We pulled anchor at 7:30 am in Biscayne Bay and headed to Cat Cay in the Bahamas. The seas were 2' to 4' with some 6'. The winds were southeast and made the passage doable. The waves subsided to 2' around noon. We crossed with Silver Boots.

Around Key Biscayne

We are hoping to get to the Bahamas tomorrow. We will not be available by cell phone but we will have intermitten email at marinas. We are hoping "spot" will work too, so you can keep track of us.
What a colorful shuttle launch--the sun was reflecting off the contrail left by the shuttle
We were lucky to be in a position that we could see the northeast sky and the shuttle launch

Took a walk in the morning

Both Sat and Sun lots of boats gathered in beautiful weather to enjoy water sports. It turned out to be Spring Break for the local colleges. It was an experience seeing the kids taking Mom and Dad's boat out of the yacht club loaded with kids and returning the in evening not able to stand. One unfortunate young person had to be transported to the hospital--too much alcohol.

Sunday mornings are sailing school.
